Agriculture is a way of life for many Filipinos who continue to innovate for sustainable livelihood for their family and community.
Champion President Eman Avengoza led the Rotary Club of Metro Escolta in conducting “Binhi: Urban Farming Seminar” for the residents of Gawad Kalinga Rotary Village at Barangay Alapan Imus, Cavite last August 18, 2019.
Hydroponics and Aquaponics advocate, Atty. Vincent Noel Aureus, shared his expertise and wisdom in agriculture, particularly on food safety and security and as a source of income. He demonstrated the process of urban farming as a practical program. The residents learned the benefits and challenges of soil-less agriculture and were taught backyard farming tips.
RCME members and the guest speaker donated gardening materials such as hydroponic solution, seedlings, containers, spades, and forks.
Mr. Alvin Almeron, GK Village President, expressed appreciation on behalf of the participants for the added knowledge and new gardening tools. The organizers and beneficiaries vowed to continue with more projects via the RI Global Grant.
Together with various volunteers, including the Rotaract Club of La Consolacion College Manila and family members of RCME, the project achieved a promising start for a sustainable impact for the community as Rotary Connects the World.
