On July 15, 2019, the first area meeting of RI District 3810, a gathering of Champion Presidents and team was held at Okada Hotel Manila. The heavy downpour did not dampen the spirit (no pun intended) of the 214 registrants, a record high for a first area meeting ever in the district. The meeting was initially a getting-to-know-you affair, as it was the first time the presidents were meeting their area district officers. (at least for some). After the call to order by Champion Governor Liza V. Elorde, Chief of Staff (COS) Belle Chua introduced the members of the Executive Committee and District Officers. District Executive Secretary (DES) Eric Candidato then called on the Senior Deputy Governors (SDGs) to present their Presidents and officers per the specific color assigned to them.
THE district officers then took turns promoting their events and activities for Rotary Year 2019-2020. Past Presidents Council (PPC) Chairperson Ruby Bairan invited the participants to the annual Mooncake Festival, Past President Cora de la Rosa for End Polio and PP TuchiTutica Jr. for Alay Lakad. The Governors Monthly Letter (GML) Managing Editor Lilian Cruz presented the guidelines for submission of articles on behalf of Editor-in-Chief Albert S. Alday, while SDG for Programs Caloy Ocampo gave a glimpse of the various activities lined up for the Champion Year. Past District Governor (PDG)
Ismael “Maeng” Mercado presented his plans for the District Rotary Foundation Committee (DRFC) and PDG Ernest Yuyek for the District International Service Committee (DISC).
After a thorough run-through of the “Hows” of reporting of projects, meetings and induction guidelines by the presidents of DES Eric, Champion Gov. Liza gave a very heartwarming inspirational talk where, after thanking the 214 attendees, which according to her was a clear manifestation of their commitment to Rotary, she encouraged the Champion Presidents not to waver in their desire to serve, to be with her in being an instrument of change, to help realize the vision and goal of District 3810 for the year 2019-2020, to do good in and Connect the World the Champion way.
After the buffet dinner, the presidents and officers were asked to proceed to their respective break out rooms where specific plans pertaining to areas of improvement on how to better serve the district for this Rotary Year were discussed further. After a very productive evening of interaction and socialization, DG Liza adjourned the very successful first area meeting at 11:00 pm.
